Office Hours and Appointments

Our office is open to serve you from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Patients are seen by appointment only. If local schools are closed due to bad weather (ice, snow, etc.), our office will be closed. Please call before coming if in doubt. We recognize that your time is valuable. We make every effort to keep appointments according to schedule; however, on occasion waiting times may be unavoidable. Your first work-up may take an hour or longer depending upon the complexity of your condition. You will first be seen by a nurse or physician assistant, and then by your physician. If your condition is such that you need to be seen immediately, every effort will be made to see you in the office. If your situation is critical, you may need to go to your local emergency room. If you are unable to keep an appointment, please notify us as soon as possible so that we may serve other patients. Please be sure to reschedule any missed appointment to ensure continuing care. If you bring X-ray films for your visit, please take them with you when you leave, unless instructed otherwise. If surgery is to be scheduled soon, you may be asked to leave films with our staff until after the surgery.

Prescriptions and Refills

On your first visit, bring all medications you are currently taking and your medical records.

No refills will be made after office hours. In an emergency, use your local emergency room.

When Dr. Blau refers patients to another physician for medication management, Dr. Blau cannot prescribe further medications.

In order to ensure that medication refills are not interrupted, please call your pharmacy 7 - 10 working days before prescriptions that must be mailed are due, and three working days in advance for all other prescriptions.

For details on medication use, please refer to the medication policy provided on your first visit.

Telephone Procedures

Our telephone policies allow us to care for patients with a minimum of interruptions. Your nurse is available to answer questions and to take care of urgent problems. She will discuss your concerns with your doctor and call you back. Calls received after 3:00 pm will be returned the next business day. Emergency calls will be handled immediately. Please indicate if you have recently had surgery, diagnostic testing or therapeutic injection. Other calls will be returned at the earliest possible time. Please keep your phone line free while you are waiting for a return call.

Insurance

If you have commercial insurance coverage, we will prepare and submit the insurance claim form to your insurance company. Please present your health insurance card at the time of service. You should know and understand the provisions of your insurance policy such as office visit, co-pay, and deductible; you are responsible for services not covered. Ultimately, all financial responsibility lies with the patient.
